park city

I can't believe that the Sundance Film Festival has been held in Utah since before I was born and this was the first year that I decided to go up. Very out of character for someone that loves celebrities as much as I do. Regardless, I had a great weekend and got to see a few celebs. I was starstruck though and only got a picture with one person...all the rest, I just gawked at and got butterflies in my stomach :)

Hope you all have had a wonderful January so far!
XO Sam

PS. If any of you are feeling down and want a little perspective on your life, read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Her hardships were hard to read at times, but her attitude was inspiring. It made me extremely grateful for my circumstances.

a blank slate

"I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now) that you will, when you need to be, be wise and that you will always be kind."
-Neil Gaiman

I am a little late on my new year post, I know, but better late than never right? Even though I think the holiday is boring and a little overrated, I love the idea that the new year brings a new start...a new chance to be the person that you want to be. I am used to writing down various goals, but it is usually just a simple to-do list-- what is due the following week, what I need to get at the grocery store, what I need to grab from Salt Lake the next time I go home. Resolutions though are different. My mom, who learned from her father, has always taught me to write down the things I want. Write them down and they will happen, right?

Alright, so here are my 2012 resolutions, as written down on my whiteboard:
1. Forgive easily and brush things off quickly.
2. Whether in jeans or sweats, don't leave the house without being proud of what you look like.
3. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Don't judge, gossip or get mad without knowing the full story.
4. No eating after 7pm.
5. Notice God's hand in your life and thank him in specifics daily.
6. No soda.
7. Do your best in school. No shortcuts, no falling behind.
8. Appreciate the people in your life that mean something to you by telling them regularly.
9. Smile. Laugh.

Kim Kardashian tweeted at the beginning of the year,
"Funny how people look 4 a fresh start in the New Year but the truth is its just an excuse! U can start fresh & set goals any day of the year,"
and I have to say, I completely disagree. Well, I don't disagree that you can set goals any day of the year, because I believe that you can and you should. I disagree with her putting people down for using the new year as a setting for new goals to be put into action. I'm so grateful that God gave me another year to be a better person and though I strive daily to be better, hopefully the goals I laid out will be the stepping stones toward a change.

I formally apologize for referencing Kim Kardashian. I'm not proud. But hey, I was disagreeing with her, so that makes it okay, right? Well anyway. Here are some pictures that I took during the break at various times, including NYE.

I am surrounded by some pretty incredible people and I am so blessed. I hope that your 2011 was great and that your 2012 will be even better (even though it's supposed to be the end of the world and stuff...)
:) Love y'all

San Diego

Candace and I were lucky enough to be able to go down and tend my aunt and uncle, Chris and Mindi's kids for a few days. Jazzy, Christopher and Nick made the trip so much fun. I'd be willing to bet that they know their way around San Diego better than I do around Salt Lake. Both Candy and I were so impressed by how well they knew the city. We went to the movie We Bought a Zoo, we went shopping, ice skating, had some pretty exciting dance parties, went to the beach, played Just Dance on the Wii, and had some fun movie nights at their house (equipped, of course, with yummy treats and popcorn). It really was so much fun. I hope that I get to go back again soon! Here are a few pics.

One thing that I love about Jaz, Christopher and Nick is that they love all the singing shows on TV just as much as I do. One night in the middle of watching Harry Potter, Jazzy started telling me about all the different locations for American Idol tryouts. Seeing that there weren't any the following day in San Diego, we moved on to the next TV show, X Factor. Apparently the tryouts were through video submission online. So the kids cajoled me into trying out. Below is our little practice audition. When my mom first saw the video she was a little concerned about the fact that I was in pajamas....so don't worry folks, the real audition tape we sent in was at a straight-on angle and did not show my pajamas. I'm not putting anything on it, but it was fun being able to sing with my cousins. I'm pretty grateful for them :)

merry christmas

Here is a litte picture update of the first part of the holidays in the Rich home. We celebrated mine and Mackenzie's birthdays (Kenzie's on the 14th and mine on the 19th), had our annual Christmas Eve party at our house, spent Christmas morning with my mom's mom and Christmas day with my dad's parents. I'm so grateful for my family. We had a lot of fun :)

Alright, so I just wanted to draw a little bit of attention to the picture below this and just say that my parents are rude. Member how I wanted a kitty? Well here it (they?) is!....RUDE.
