a perfect balance

This is a quote by Albert Einstein that I really like. I feel like it's incredibly easy to get so caught up in something that you soon find that you have forgotten about everything else. Life is a balancing act...whether it's too much school, too much play, too much church, it's easy for things to get out of balance. Whenever it happens to me, it doesn't take long before I start to feel flustered and anxious. During finals week especially, I think it's important for me to remember to stay balanced. Too much of anything is never good.

Less than a week until I am officially moved home!
Happily yours, Samantha

easter weekend

I love weekends at home. I think my family sometimes gets irritated with me though because whenever I am home I like to plan fun family activities. And pretty soon I won't be here for just the short duration of a weekend, but I'll be here for the whole summer. So, get ready fam...we'll have lots of activities :)

On Friday night, we watched the movie 127 Hours. It was incredible. I gagged at the part where he cuts off his arm...oops I hope I didn't just give away any spoilers of the movie. Sorry if I did. But yeah. He cuts his arm, breaks his arm in two places and drinks his own urine. The dry heaving was warranted to say the least. The storyline was awesome though. Very inspirational.

On Saturday, we went to the movie Water for Elephants. I liked it, but the animal cruelty was hard for me to watch. The elephant was just so cute! After the movie we dyed Easter eggs.

Today we went to my grandma Jo's house for our Easter dinner. She made yummy food and I even was able to bring a good gluten free lemon poppyseed cake.

I hope everyone's Easter was as good as ours!

short and sweet

If any of you have not seen this TV show, I would advice you to quickly change that. I spent Thursday and Friday with my family this weekend and we all watched the first episode of this new season together. Family time and Friday Night Lights...can't get much better than that.

Sorry so quick, I have some homework to catch up on. Happy Sunday!

goings on

Hello! I can't believe it's already April. I feel like this school year has gone by so fast...I only have three weeks left. I'll hold the celebration for when the day actually comes, but just know that I am SO excited for Salt Lake's even-tempered warm weather.

You guessed it, the weather is not wonderful here. We had an unexpected blizzard this last weekend. I'm all for treasuring the beauty of all the seasons--but really, it's April and I have to wear my Uggs still. Get real. I decided the snow should be documented. Below is a picture of (from left to right) me, Kacee Patrick, Hailey Thorne, and Katie Hoskins, a few of my roommates.

Everything else is great though. I'm loving Utah State. I know that when the time comes to pack up my stuff for the summer, I will be a little sad. I'm learning so much about myself and the things that are important to me.

My five random things I am grateful for today:
1. Conference talks online. I'm loving catching up on the talks I missed last week.
2. Pandora.com. There are always songs that I've never heard before that I LOVE.
3. Our Brita water filter.
4. My family. With being away from home, I appreciate them so much more.
5. Stretch time with my roommate Kim. Not only is it good talking time, she's helping me be flexible and healthy...nothin wrong with that.

Love you all
Samantha

music, the literature of the soul

I have a test in two days for my human development class, so of course instead of studying like the good student would do, I am scouring youtube watching my favorite singers perform live. I know that some of you are probably getting tired of hearing me rant about music, but I honestly cannot help it. Music is good in every sense of the word.

Music has been the one thing that has gotten me through everything. Even though that is usually the most cliche thing to say, it honestly is true for me. I wish I could say that I turned directly to the church for every problem I had, but I didn't. I turned to music. Whenever something happened with my friends or my family or my current boyfriend, I would turn on my music as loud as a could and let the truth of the music envelop me.

Although the type of music I listen to usually fits right with my mood, my favorite thing to listen to is true talent; someone that not only has been blessed with a phenomenal voice, but someone who feels the music so deeply that they can convey the emotion that the song inspires within them so perfectly that soon everyone listening to them sing feels that exact same emotion.

How do you not get the chills when you listen to these videos?

"And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
And as silently steal away."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Okay I should probably get to bed so I can attempt to be a better student tomorrow.

happy april fooling

Although not many people believed that I dyed my hair, I definitely had a few people convinced. When my grandpa saw the picture he said "Oh hell. Did she do that on purpose?" Funny funny. Happy April fools everyone.
